Welcome to Beyond the Wreath!
Sitting here on my front porch, I am enjoying the sunshine and wildflower garden that adjoins. Watching all of its winged visitors skipping from flower to flower. I feel infinitely blessed and beyond grateful.
My gaze lingers on the beautiful flowers that bring me immense joy. I muse at how my wildflower patch, is an accidental mess of loveliness that nearly wasn’t.. A story for another day..
A warm satisfaction fills my soul surveying our wide front porch with its simple decorative touches, the intimate settee, the potted plants, my scrolled metal welcome sign with little colored wooden birds and the outdoor rug that ties it all together. It has transformed from a bleak concrete nothingness to a welcoming greeting for friends, visitors and most importantly ourselves.
I strongly believe that our home is our sanctuary. Our refuge from the crazy, messy, relentless world we live in. A place to come home to recharge and refresh. To weather the storms, to feel our best and face the challenge known as life. A home I love to share with my husband, our friends and neighbour’s alike.
What is the first thing our guests, and especially ourselves experience as we arrive at this home?
The patio? The garden? The front door? How does this feel? Is this a warm welcoming greeting? Comfortable and safe? Or scary and cold, with random dusty ‘stuff’ strewn all over the place making one hesitant to what lies within?
Coming home to clutter bothers me. It instantly puts me in a bad mood and can completey ruin what otherwise may have been a great day. It sends me into overdrive. It confronts me with all the things I have yet to do and ‘should’ do before I sit and relax for the evening, when Im already exhausted. I dont think Im alone here?
I would rather be enjoying some rest and relaxation then cleaning up a random pile of stuff from multiple surfaces. The pile of dishes in the sink, the dirty clothes on the floor in the bathroom. All before I can even begin preparing a healthy meal and enjoying some down time with my better half. Where is the serenity in that? Ugg!!
The role of home maker requires me (or anybody who runs their home) to wear a lot of hats. Its so much more than cooking and cleaning, so much more than doing laundry and decorating with throw pillows and vases.. Its about caring for not just your home, but yourself and those you love.
Perhaps in my role of professional organiser I have a more critical eye than most? This is something that comes naturally to me, and something I just understand. Something I love working with others to achieve. The sheer joy, satisfaction and relief I see on my clients face is what makes all the effort worthwhile. The sheer peacefullness I come home to each day and invite my guests into.
I love everything that makes a house a home. Let me share this with you… let me show you how easy this can be. Once you begin, and get the hang of it, you will wonder whatever took you so long!
Living life and coming home is about what lies “Beyond the Wreath”. I hope by sharing my insights, that those whose home is not yet their refuge, will find guidance and ideas to help make their house a home.
Cross the welcome mat, and go Beyond the Wreath.. step inside and lets get started.
